Tatmetal Puts Solar Energy Into Use
Tatmetal, one of Turkey's leading flat steel manufacturers, has announced plans to install a solar power plant (SPP) in its production facilities. Tatmetal's first renewable energy investment, SPP, will be built on 70,000 square meters of the roof area of its production facilities, and, when completed, it will produce an average of 12 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity annually.
April 6, 2022 Tatmetal, one of the largest flat steel producers in Turkey, advanced its energy-efficiency efforts one step further with a project to generate electricity from renewable sources. Accordingly, the company has begun installing solar power plants (SPPs) on an area of 70,000 square meters on the roof of its facilities in Karadeniz Ereğli.
Tatmetal's new SPP will have a capacity of 2.4 megawatts (MW) in the first phase and will reach a 10 MW installed capacity once it becomes fully functional in 2022. With the investment, which is expected to generate an average of 12 million kWh of electricity per year, Tatmetal will be a pioneer in heavy industry and come one step closer to fulfilling the requirements of the European Union Carbon Border Tax, which will go into effect in 2025.
Having made the reduction of its carbon impact a priority in its sustainability policies, Tatmetal continues its efforts to use sources other than solar energy to meet most of its energy demand through using renewable energy.
